Privacy policy

Last updated September 9, 2026

This policy explains what happens to information when you use Namethistle at https://namethistle.com. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate, because a privacy policy nobody can read protects nobody.

The short version

  • The names you type into our tools never leave your device.
  • We have no accounts, so we hold no names, emails or passwords for users.
  • We use analytics to see which tools are used and where people get stuck.
  • We may show advertising, which uses cookies, and you can opt out of personalisation.

What our tools do with what you type

Every tool on this site is client-side JavaScript. When you enter names into the Name Combiner or any other tool, the calculation happens in your browser on your own device. Those names are not transmitted to us, not written to any log, and not stored on any server. When you close the tab, they are gone.

One exception is worth naming: when you press Combine, the tool adds the names to the address bar so the page can be bookmarked or shared. That URL stays in your browser. It is only transmitted anywhere if you choose to copy and send it, or if your browser sends the page address to analytics as described below.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate usage: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are located at country level, which devices are used, and how people move through the site. IP anonymisation is enabled. We do not use analytics to identify individuals and we do not attempt to.

We also use Microsoft Clarity, which records anonymised interaction data such as clicks, scrolling and session replays, to find usability problems. Clarity masks text input fields by default. We use it to find out where a tool is confusing, not to watch individuals.

You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Information on Microsoft's handling of Clarity data is available in the Microsoft privacy statement.

Advertising

This site may display advertising served by Google AdSense in order to cover hosting and development costs.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info.

We do not share any information with advertisers ourselves, because we do not hold any.

Cookies and local storage

Cookies set on this site come from the analytics and advertising services described above, not from us directly. We use no cookies for site functionality. Some tools may use your browser's local storage to remember a saved list between visits; that data stays on your device and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.

Every major browser allows you to block or delete cookies. Doing so will not stop any tool on this site from working.

Information you send us directly

If you email us through the contact page, we receive whatever you put in that message, including your email address. We use it to reply and for nothing else. We do not add correspondents to any mailing list. Messages are retained only as long as needed to handle the matter.

Children

This site is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data held about you, and to object to certain processing. Because we hold almost no personal data, most such requests will relate to analytics or advertising data held by the third parties named above, and their own tools are the fastest route. For anything we do hold, such as email correspondence, contact us at [email protected].

External links

Where we link to other sites, their privacy practices are their own. We suggest reading the policy of any site you visit from here.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if our practices change, and will revise the date shown above. If a change is significant, we will note it at the top of the page.
